Internet has become one of the popular medium for people to exchange ideas, interact, chat and gain information. It is a world of Internet and every one is using it extensively for various purposes. These days user-generated content is becoming a popular term. Not many people know what exactly means. It is a content produced by the end-users. The content belongs to various kinds of media content. These contents are publicly available. The term User-generated content became popular during 2005. User-generated content are easily accessible to the public. It helped to expand the media production through new technologies. User-generated content include blogging, wikis, mobile phone photography, research, gossip, digital video, etc. Not only this the user-generated content can have free software, open source, etc.
Most of the time user-generated content only cover some of the portion the website. Some of the web sites based on user-generated content are TripAdvisor, Wikipedia, Friends Reunited, Urban Dictionary, YouTube, Piczo, Epinions, woophy, Dailymotion, Outloud.TV, Flickr, Facebook, G2Bux, MySpace, Digg and Revver. With the coming of user-generated content it has helped to expand the new media.

This helps the end users to publish their content. Since the advent of this application the concept of passive audience has been shifted. With each day passing more and more people are using this medium. New experiments have helped in coming up with innovation in techniques, artists and sounds. The audience have now become creative and is thus contributing in large number user-generated content. As the Internet media is accessible very easily. There are three characteristics of user-generated content. The first one is that the content can be made by user. The content is published on some context. It is a best way to exclude two way instant messaging and email. The second characteristic is that it helps in generating creative users. Copying a television show and pasting in on website will not be called as user-generated content. The user has to come up with something new like exclusive photos, videos, pictures and interesting blog then it is called as user-generated content. Pasting a link is also a form of user-generated content. Contributing to user-generated content does not require any professionalism but what is required is the creativity. It is the third characteristic of UGC or user-generated content.

This helps the users to know the taste and creativity of different people. There are various types of user-generated content Experience or photo sharing sites, social networking sites, discussion boards, trip planners, blogs, customer review sites and News Sites. Discussion boards is a web application which is used for giving opinions. Writing a blog is also a creative thing and is one of the popular types of user-generated content. This application has helped to improve the creativity of the users. In the coming years one can expect many more interesting features in user-generated content.
